This is something our homestay students (and every eligible student out there) can look forward to as a relief from this pandemic situation.
In a nutshell, this COVID-19 financial relief program proposes to pay post-secondary students who:
are currently in school,
are planning to start school in September 2020, or
have graduated from school since December 2019
It’s not clear whether or not international students studying in Canada or Canadian students studying abroad would be eligible for the benefit. But if the government follows the criteria for CERB, eligible recipients must be:
Canadian citizens,
permanent residents and
those who work in Canada.
And if a student does qualify, he or she will be receiving CESB payment of $1,250 per month,
or $1,750.00 per month if the eligible student is disabled or a caregiver
The benefit will be available from May 1 to end of August.
Keep in mind that this program is not approved yet, so stay tuned. Once legislation is passed:
applications will be available online
payments will be made by CRA
